How does it all work?

KarmaHaggle is based on these rules:

  1. Any account can list an item they own as a Gift and possibly earn 2 points.
  2. An account with 3 points can create a Wish.
  3. An account with an active Gift or Wish can create a Proposal to send to the owner of another active Gift or Wish.
  4. If accepted a Proposal becomes a Project or an agreement to exchange an item, making the Wish and Gift unavailable for additional Proposal requests.
  5. A Project is considered successful or complete when both parties leave feedback or the time allocated for leaving feedback elapses.
  6. On Project completion the following events occur:
    • The 3 Points used to create the Wish are updated from locked to spent status.
    • The owner of the Gift is issued 2 Points except for on every third Gift given in which case they are issued 3 points.
    • The Social Bank also receives 3 points.
  7. The Social Bank continues to give Sponsors 3 points on sign-up and on regular intervals evenly distributes them to the existing Sponsor base.

What about money?

We all have to make money to support ourselves but this isn't the place for that. No money exchanges hands on this site.

Sure, but do Points have any value?

Points have absolutely no monetary value at all. They can only give you the ability to make a Wish for a Gift.

How do I get Points?

Points are earned through creating Gifts.

What about shipping costs?

Shipping is something you have consider when creating a gift or wish. The best way to overcome this is to trade items that require no shipping at all such as "virtual items" and gift certificates/coupons where the ability to transfer control of the item can be handled electronically. If you're giving something to a sponsor (charity/volunteer organization) they may be able to provide a location for you drop the item off or even pick it up for you. If the item does have to be shipped you must specify those terms in the gift or wish so both parties know what they are getting into in advance and remember that the postal service offers cheaper rates for media items like CD/DVDs, Books, and tapes. You should NEVER send money to pay for shipping costs, instead arrange for prepaid shipping via one of the known mail carriers and/or electronically send a prepaid shipping label to the sender. Remember on KarmaHaggle money should NEVER change hands and if someone is asking for a payment contact us immediately.

When do Gifts or Wishes expire?

All listings expire in 60 days, at this time any points will be unlocked and available for spending. Listings can also be expired if there is no associated Projects or Proposals.

Do points expire?

Yes, points expire if not used within 6 months and are then returned to the Social Bank. If you have points you know you will not use you can always donate them to the Social Bank at any time before expiration.

When are points locked?

When you create a Wish. They are unlocked if the Wish expires or in special circumstances such as a disputed project.

When are points spent and issued?

After a Project combining your Wish with a Gift is rated by both parties with feedback or after the feedback period elapses, which ever comes first.
